Tournament Builds Good Relations
The Eyamaqhawe Foundation-hosted soccer tournament in Felekisi was a well-supported affair, with the community descending on the Dolphin sports ground to witness the action recently.
Held annually, the competition was divided into U21, U17, and open categories, totaling 12 teams.
The top prize was R10 000, new soccer jerseys, medals and a trophy.
Participating teams came from Lovu, Felekisi, Adams Mission, KwaMakhutha, Mdumezulu and Newlands. All players gave it their best, hoping to stand out as there were soccer talent scouts from Golden Arrows FC and Squash FC.
The final match was played by Amaxoki FC from Felekisi and United FC from KwaMakhutha, United winning by 2-0. Eyamaqhawe Foundation's founder, Siyabonga Hlatshwayo, said he was pleased with the support from the sponsors and the community.
"This tournament aims to bring back sport in our community, while also building good relations between neighbouring townships. Thank you to our sponsors and supporters, Seed of Hope, Freshstop at Southgate, Menzi Manqele, Sihle Gumede, the Mdunge family, Aquelle, DJ Mzet, Astron Gus Brown Road and Heather Liebenburg," said Hlatshwayo.
